Karina Sicairos , LCSW
My name is Karina Sicairos, and I am a bilingual/bicultural Latinx (Spanish speaking) Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in California for almost 10 years. I have a BA in Psychology, with a minor in Women's Studies and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I am passionate about helping folks navigate through life's difficulties, while helping them find and honor their own voice and inner strengths, with the goal of increasing feelings of self-worth and empowerment as they continue to forge their unique path.
I enjoy working with adults of all ages and have 10 years of experience working with seniors and folks experiencing emotional challenges related to medical illness. I have led Spanish depression and anxiety psychotherapy and educational groups and have provided mental health community outreach via the Riverside County Mental Health Department Cultural Competency Program. I have served as a Community Crisis Worker for San Bernardino County DBH. I practice trauma-informed therapy and hold Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) Level I and II Certifications. I find that using Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychology and Written Exposure Therapy can be very helpful in working through emotional pain, including that related to generational trauma. I find it deeply rewarding helping folks work through grief and loss, helping them find inner growth even through life’s most difficult moments. I specialize in working with women of color, marginalized communities, perinatal mental health and really feel honored to provide mental health services to our Spanish speaking community.
My style is very casual and informal, focusing on having a strong therapeutic alliance, clear treatment goals and humor throughout our time together. I believe it's essential to build on inner strengths and resiliency. Using person-centered humanistic and holistic approaches, along with psychoeducation, and always through a lens of cultural humility, I like to walk alongside my clients as a witness and coach in their healing. I find it critical to start with the client as the expert in their life, weaving in trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioral interventions, with self-regulation skills to increase self-awareness, communication skills and an ability to be fully present.
My clients can expect to feel heard and respected in an emotionally safe space. I want them to feel empowered as they move forward towards graduation with a renewed sense of self-confidence to take on life's challenges, while being able to also celebrate life's gifts.
